Collection: Bouclé Yarn

You can recognize bouclé by the little loops in the strand. They give your knitting a nubby, soft surface in which individual stitches and small irregularities disappear. That’s why bouclé is very forgiving and still looks like it came from a boutique.

Bouclé wool or bouclé yarn?

Both mean a yarn with small loops along the strand, named after the French word for “curl.” The loops give the yarn volume without making it heavy. We call it wool when wool, alpaca, or mohair make up at least half of it.

Our bouclé yarns

Alpaca Bouclé Pelageya with Linen combines warm alpaca with a little linen and is perfect for the in-between seasons. Bouclé Wool Spring with Merino & Baby Alpaca is especially soft, and Bouclé Yarn Solina with Mohair adds a fine halo as well. All three have 220 to 260 m per 100 g and are knitted on 3.5 to 5 mm needles.

Knitting with bouclé

The loops hide individual stitches. That makes bouclé forgiving, but counting stitches and ripping back are harder. So knit a gauge swatch first and choose simple shapes like cardigans, sweater vests, scarves, or cowls.

Care

Hand wash at 30 °C, do not rub, dry flat – that keeps the loops in shape.

You’ll find more textured yarns in our Heathered Yarn collection.

Frequently asked questions

What is bouclé yarn?

Bouclé is a yarn with small loops along the strand. Knitted up, it creates a nubby, soft surface reminiscent of teddy fleece.

Is bouclé good for beginners?

For simple shapes, yes: the loops hide uneven stitches. Counting stitches and ripping back are harder, though, so pieces in stockinette or garter stitch work best.

What needle size do I need for bouclé?

Our bouclé yarns are knitted on 3.5 to 5 mm needles. The exact recommendation is listed with each yarn.
