Three kinds of multicolor
In gradient yarn, the colors blend into each other over long stretches; in multicolor yarns, they change at shorter intervals; and in heathered yarns, they’re finely mixed. Which one suits you depends on whether you want calm transitions or a lively pattern.
Our multicolor yarns
Multicolor Yarn Tenero with Alpaca is soft and fluffy, with 180 m per 100 g for 5–6 mm needles. Gradient Yarn Sofia with Wool changes color on its own, and Heathered Yarn Regenbogen with Wool blends many shades finely in the strand. Virgin Wool Ronan comes in 18 colors, most of them plied with white.
Stitch patterns for multicolor yarn
The more colors in the strand, the simpler the pattern can be: garter stitch, stockinette stitch, or seed stitch let the colors shine, while cables and lace patterns easily get lost. Granny squares also work well for blankets – learn more in our guide How to Crochet a Blanket for Beginners.
Care
Hand wash at 30 °C, dry flat, do not wring.
You’ll find calmer color blends in our Heathered Yarn collection.
Frequently asked questions
Which stitch patterns suit multicolor yarn?
Simple patterns such as garter stitch, stockinette stitch, or seed stitch. With many colors in the strand, cables and lace patterns easily get lost.
Can I combine multicolor yarn with a solid yarn?
Yes. Cuffs, a collar, or single stripes in one of the colors from the multicolor yarn make the piece look calmer.
What is multicolor yarn good for?
Blankets, sweaters, hats, and scarves – anywhere you want the yarn to handle the color while you focus on simple stitches.
