Collection: Gradient Yarn

Gradient yarn changes color all by itself. You just keep knitting, and at some point you notice that blue has turned into green – without changing yarns even once.

How the gradient is created

The yarn is dyed so that one shade slowly blends into the next over many meters. Because the color change is built into the ball and not into your work, you don’t need to buy several colors or weave in ends. A simple stockinette stitch is all you need – the yarn does the rest.

What it’s best for

A gradient looks its best on large, calm surfaces: triangle shawls, cowls, simple sweaters. On small pieces like a hat, you’ll often see only part of the gradient – which can be appealing too, but it’s a different effect.

From chunky to very fine

Our gradient yarns range from 180 m per 100 g for 5–6 mm needles to 800 m for very fine needles. All in 100 g balls, all from Italy.

Care

Hand wash at 30 °C, dry flat, do not wring.

If you prefer something calmer, you’ll find solid-color yarns in our Alpaca Wool and Virgin Wool collections.

Frequently asked questions

How does gradient yarn work?

The color changes on its own along the strand – you knit as usual, and the pattern appears automatically.

Do two balls look the same?

The gradient may start at a different point. For large pieces, you can alternate between two balls so the transitions stay even.

What is gradient yarn good for?

It looks especially beautiful in shawls, scarves, and hats.
