Why texture looks better in virgin wool
Wool has a natural crimp. That crimp is what gives it elasticity and keeps a stitch pattern from collapsing – which happens quickly with soft, smooth fibers. Cable patterns and textured stitches look especially good in virgin wool.
What else the fiber can do
Virgin wool regulates moisture, keeps you warm even when it gets damp, and is naturally odor-resistant. A sweater made from it rarely needs washing.
Our guide How to Knit a Sweater for Beginners shows you how to knit your first sweater step by step.
From pure wool to blends
You’ll find both here: yarns made of 100% Shetland wool or with 70 to 86% wool, and blends in which acrylic, polyamide, or viscose add lightness and shape. From 130 to 950 m per 100 g.
Care
Hand wash at 30 °C, dry flat, do not wring. A wool detergent is gentle on the fiber and preserves its natural elasticity.
You’ll find especially soft yarns in our Merino Wool collection and the thickest ones in Chunky Yarn.
