What is baby alpaca?
The term refers to the finest quality grade of alpaca fiber, regardless of the animal’s age. Baby alpaca wool feels noticeably softer than regular alpaca wool and keeps you warm without much weight. Many people find it comfortable even on sensitive skin.
Our yarns with baby alpaca
The highest share is in Baby Alpaca Wool Punia, with 70% baby alpaca. You’ll also find chunky yarn for quick projects, a fine yarn with 450 m per 100 g, bouclé, heathered shades, and a yarn with glitter – from 120 to 450 m per 100 g for needle sizes 2.5 to 8 mm.
What baby alpaca is good for
Sweaters, cardigans, and shawls worn close to the body, and baby items like little hats, little jackets, or blankets. Keep in mind for baby items: all our yarns are hand wash only.
Care
Hand wash at 30 °C, dry flat, do not wring. Because the fiber repels dirt, simply airing it out is often enough between washes.
Our guide Alpaca Wool: Properties, Benefits, and Knitting Tips explains whether alpaca itches and how to knit with it. You’ll find more yarns in our Alpaca Wool and Baby Yarn collections.
