Sparkle that stays soft
Our glitter yarn has a fine metallic thread running through it, also known as Lurex. It catches the light and, depending on the angle, shines clearly or is barely visible. At least half of the yarn is alpaca and wool – that’s why a sweater made from glitter yarn stays soft and warm.
Our glitter yarn
Glitter Wool Nila with Alpaca comes in 12 colors, from copper and gold to silver and black – with 220 m per 100 g for 3.5–4.5 mm needles. Baby Alpaca Wool Romana with Glitter is half baby alpaca, has 240 m per 100 g, and is knitted on 4–5 mm needles.
What glitter yarn is good for
Sweaters and cardigans for special occasions, plus cowls, hats, tops, and pillows. You can knit or crochet it. The sparkle shows best on calm surfaces such as stockinette stitch.
Care
Hand wash at 30 °C, do not wring, dry flat. Steam only lightly and from a distance.
You’ll find more effect yarns in our Bouclé Yarn and Heathered Yarn collections.
Frequently asked questions
What is Lurex?
Lurex is a fine, metal-coated thread that runs along with the yarn and reflects light. In our glitter yarn, it makes up 10 to 13% of the yarn.
Does glitter yarn itch?
The metallic thread is a little stiffer than the other fibers. Because at least half of the yarn is alpaca and wool, most people still find glitter yarn comfortable. If your skin is very sensitive, it’s best worn over a shirt.
Can I crochet with glitter yarn, too?
Yes. Use a crochet hook about 0.5 to 1 mm larger than the recommended knitting needle. Single crochet and double crochet show off the sparkle well.
